Belarus’ PM expects boost in medical care with new hospital in Minsk Oblast

MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) - Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin, his deputies, and staff of the Council of Ministers' Office took part in the construction of the surgical wing for the Minsk Regional Clinical Hospital Order of the Red Banner of Labor in the agro-town of Lesnoi in Minsk District as part of the nationwide clean-up day on 25 October, BelTA has learned.

According to Aleksandr Turchin, the surgical wing of the Minsk Regional Hospital is just the high-level part of the region's medical facilities. “The Regional Children's Clinical Hospital and the Masherov Hospital are located nearby. In the future, we expect all these facilities to operate as a single entity,” the prime minister said.

According to him, the history of this building is very long, with several attempts made to construct it. “A final decision to build it was made several years ago. During a visit to the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, the president set a clear task to complete the construction of the building by 9 May 2026. This is a rather tight deadline, but today I see that this task is truly achievable,” he said.

Minsk Oblast is the most populous area after Minsk city. It is very important that its residents have access to qualified medical care, Aleksandr Turchin emphasized. “This wing is also important because, after its commissioning, the department for adult patients, which is currently located in the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, will move either to the new building or to the vacated premises of the hospital. These wings will also be repaired and renovated if necessary. This will make it possible to expand quality medical care for children,” the head of government noted. “The goal is to ensure that all children with serious pathologies or conditions requiring surgical intervention receive care at the regional level.”

“Thus, the completion of the wing and the reorganization will significantly increase the volume and improve the quality of medical services not only for Minsk Oblast but for the entire country,” the prime minister emphasized. “Patients from all regions of Belarus and the city of Minsk receive treatment here, which is why this hospital will become a center of national importance. The wing is equipped with modern facilities and operating rooms. This important project reflects that healthcare is one of the state's top priorities,” the prime minister said.

Construction of the wing began in 2023. Nearly Br500 million have been injected in its construction and equipment procurement. Similar projects are being implemented in other regions of the country, such as Vitebsk, Grodno, and others. Aleksandr Turchin stressed that the government is monitoring and securing funding sources to ensure all facilities are commissioned on time and all state directives are fulfilled.

The wing will be the largest in the region, with an area of over 60,000 square meters. The eight-story facility is designed for 380 patient beds. The wards are planned to accommodate 2-3 patients each.

A nationwide clean-up day (subbotnik) took place across Belarus on 25 October. Of the funds raised from this autumn's subbotnik, 50% will be allocated to the construction of the Belarusian National History Museum and the development of its permanent exhibition. The remaining 50% will be at the disposal of the oblast executive committees and the Minsk City Hall, with the possibility of directing them to specific local projects.
