MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – We will seek to ensure that the recycling rate of secondary resources is at least 50% by 2025, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he addressed the 6th Belarusian People's Congress in Minsk on 11 February, BelTA has learned.
“We should ramp up recycling of municipal waste manifold if we want to live in a clean country. By the end of the five-year period, the recycling rate of secondary resources should be at least 50%,” Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed.
The president noted that building a circular economy is impossible without recycling secondary raw materials. However, the attitude to this matter in Belarus is still slovenly. He mentioned Switzerland where the recycling rate of secondary resources is nearing 100% as an example.
“A year ago we decided to stop using plastic. There is enough paper, we can substitute import. Let's not litter our country. It is important that we change our way of thinking about this topic, if we do not want to find ourselves stuck in mud, if we want to live in a clean country, a part of the green lungs of Europe,” Aleksandr Lukashenko believes.
