MOSCOW, 17 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ representatives took part
in a counterterrorism drill in Moscow, the press service of the CIS
Anti-Terrorism Center told BelTA.
The organization of interaction of security agencies and special services of the Commonwealth of Independent States with a view to detecting and suppressing actions of international terrorist organizations that target critical infrastructure was practiced during a joint command post rehearsal of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center. The purpose of the event was to prepare personnel of the relevant agencies of the CIS member states for working together to detect signs of preparations for terrorist attacks against sea infrastructure and oil and gas industry infrastructure and stop such attacks during the first stage of the joint counterterrorism exercise Caspian Antiterror 2021.
Delegations of security agencies and special services of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan went to Moscow to participate in the command post rehearsal. Taking part in the drill were also representatives of the Coordinating Service of the CIS Council of Border Guard Commanders, the Secretariat of the CIS Defense Ministers Council, the CIS Council of Financial Intelligence Chiefs, representatives of the Integrated Safety and Security Department of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkin.
Participants of the rehearsal were informed about the general concept and the procedure for carrying out stages of the exercise. Typical situational tasks for detecting and stopping preparations for terrorist attacks against sea infrastructure, oil and gas industry infrastructure were reviewed as well as the organization of interagency and interstate interaction during investigative operations. The procedure for using collective CIS information systems that special services possess was clarified. The command post rehearsal was one of the steps in preparing for the CIS counterterrorism exercise Caspian Antiterror 2021. The exercise will focus on technologies for ensuring security in the Caspian Sea region.
The first stage of the exercise will take place in eight CIS member states (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan) on 23-26 August. The second phase (the deployment of the forces) will take place in Aktau, Kazakhstan on 2 September.
