Belarus offered to replace European medical raw materials with Russian ones

MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) - Belarus is offered to replace the raw materials the country imports from Europe with Russian ones for the production of medicines, Director General of the Belarusian pharmaceutical holdings company Belpharmprom Sergei Kazakevich told the media, BelTA has learned.

“They offer us to use their products instead of those we used to import from other countries, including the EU and Ukraine, in the production of medications. We can count on the help of our Russian partners,” said Sergei Kazakevich.

In his words, a working group has been set up together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. The group discusses almost on a daily basis the existing problems and develops measures to overcome them. “We have received quite a lot of information from our Russian counterparts about the production of raw materials in the Russian Federation, which we can use to produce medications. This applies not only to auxiliary materials, but also to pharmaceutical substances,” Sergei Kazakevich said.

One of the most important issues is to make the necessary changes in the registration documents for medicines, said Sergei Kazakevich. He explained that the production of drugs has its specifics due to the fact that the regulations in Belarus as well as in its neighbors are tough. “Any change of each component requires necessary changes in the documentation. Today the Healthcare Ministry has worked out certain approaches to intensify the registration procedure, which will enable us to make changes on alternative manufacturers as quickly as possible, while ensuring the safety and quality of manufactured medicines,” the director general said.
