MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – Ostrovets has created the most comfortable living conditions for people, Director General of the Belarusian nuclear power plant Sergei Bobovich told journalists before the expanded-participation session of the foundation Association of Nuclear Power Plant Locations (ATR AES Foundation), BelTA has learned.

Today, Belarus and Russia cooperate not only in nuclear energy industry as such, but also interact in related fields, like development of towns hosting nuclear power plants. “It is great to have an opportunity to share experience, best practices in improving a living environment in such towns, because it is extremely important for Belarus and the Russian Federation to ensure comfortable living conditions for local residents, personnel working at NPPs and their families,” Sergei Bobovich emphasized.

Belarus can learn a lot from Russia, as  Russia has developed and implemented a large number of programs in this field. “The roadmaps that will be signed today will facilitate joint movement forward. We hope that our experience of implementing social programs will be extremely useful for Russia, too,” he remarked.

Belarusian power engineers visit nuclear facilities in the Russian Federation every year. “We study what they are doing to improve the living conditions. If you come to Ostrovets today, you will see that a lot has already been implemented here, the most comfortable conditions have been created for people, both for employees of the Belarusian NPP and all residents of Ostrovets. This year, for example, the construction of a school will be completed. This is an extremely important facility. The number of children in Ostrovets is constantly growing, and this is very good. Ostrovets is the anchor of the One District - One Project Initiative.

Sergei Bobovich noted that more and more schools open in Ostrovets, because the town's population is rapidly growing, and this is one of the important indicators of development.
