Belarus' National Library to display message of solidarity with Italy

MINSK, 25 March (BelTA) – The National Library of Belarus will display a news ticker with words of encouragement for the Italian people as a sign of solidarity in the fight against the coronavirus, BelTA learned from the public relations department of the National Library.

“On the initiative of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on 26 March the National Library will demonstrate a picture with the phrase ‘Belarus stands with Italy',” the National Library said.

The first cases of the novel coronavirus were reported in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019. Since then, COVID-19 has spread to more than 190 countries and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.

One of the worst-hit countries in Europe is Italy. As the Italian authorities reported on 24 March, the coronavirus death toll rose by 743 in the past 24 hours. At the same time, the number of new cases continue to decline slightly. Strict quarantine measures and restrictions on the movement of people were imposed throughout Italy on 10 March. The country is set to extend the quarantine period beyond 3 April.
