Belarus names most popular rail destinations in Russia

MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) - Valery Matskel, First Deputy Head of the Transportation Service at Belarusian Railways, named most popular rail destinations in Russia for Belarusians, BelTA has learned.

"The Belarusian rail service operates 19 border checkpoints with neighboring railway administrations. Due to current circumstances and restrictions, only 10 are operational, including six with the Russian Federation. This route remains the primary corridor for both passenger and freight transportation between Belarus and Russia," he said.

Valery Matskel noted that 22 international trains operated by Belarusian Railways serve destinations across Russia. "The most popular rail destinations include Moscow, St. Petersburg, Adler and Murmansk. These are currently the busiest connections," the first deputy head added.

As the backbone of Belarus' national transport system, Belarusian Railways spans 5,500 km of operational track (over 25% electrified), handles more than 100 million tonnes of freight annually. Daily loading capacity exceeds 200,000 tonnes across more than 200. Belarusian Railways employs 60,000 workers across over 300 professions.
