Belarus' media community forum participants pass resolution

MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) – Participants of the maiden edition of the Forum of the Media Community of Belarus “Media in the Age of Digitalization” have adopted a resolution, BelTA has learned.

“We, the participants of the 1st Forum of the Media Community of Belarus “Media in the Age of Digitalization”, would like to note that along with positive changes the ongoing transformation of the media landscape has a certain underside, as it has a negative impact on the reliability and objectivity of information flows. Fake and openly false information has literally swept our society. Professional journalism is losing its face and is being devalued. We see that all kinds of extremists, terrorists and provocateurs often act under the guise of journalists,” the resolution reads.

The events of recent days have clearly shown that various media platforms have become deeply involved in exerting unprecedented pressure on Belarus, spreading defamation, and creating tensions in the society. “In fact, a large-scale hybrid war has been launched against Belarus, and we, journalists, are at the forefront today. We believe that the professional journalistic community should join efforts in order to effectively counter new challenges and threats, ensure the information security of sovereign Belarus and a fair world order, improve the quality of life of our people. Our task is to tell people the truth, to resist massive attacks of opponents, not to allow them to manipulate people and to shape the wrong perception of events, to prevent a split in the Belarusian society,” the participants of the forum noted.
