Belarus' Labor Ministry hands over humanitarian aid for refugees

MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) - Employees of the central office and subordinate organizations of the Belarusian Labor and Social Security Ministry have collected and handed over humanitarian aid for foreign nationals stranded on the Belarusian-Polish border, BelTA has learned.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security and its subordinate organizations organized the collection of voluntary donations. More than Br5,000 was spent to buy humanitarian aid. Food products for adults and children, personal hygiene products and essentials were delivered to the temporary accommodation point on the Belarusian-Polish border on 23 November.

“The situation on the Belarusian-Polish border demonstrates the selectivity and double reading of ‘Western values'. Under the banner of human rights defenders, European politicians and international human rights organizations ignore the suffering and pleas for help of mothers, pregnant women and children fleeing the war. Instead of shelter, psychological help and all possible support to refugees, Western politicians opt to blame. In addition to verbal attacks on the Belarusian authorities, they use water cannons with chemicals and tear gas against unarmed people,” Labor and Social Security Minister Irina Kostevich said.

The minister expressed her deepest indignation that such actions of ‘democratic Europe' were taking place in front of frightened and defenseless children who see their parents suffering.

“While Europe is deciding who is right and who is wrong, Belarusians are helping these people by providing shelter, warm clothes and food. The employees of our ministry, as well as all Belarusians, hope for a speedy resolution of the situation at the border. People should not suffer and children should not see the cruelty,” Irina Kostevich added.
