MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) - A delegation of the Investigative Committee of Belarus led by First Deputy Chairman Oleg Shandarovich met with Kazakhstan's Prosecutor General Berik Asylov during a working trip to Kazakhstan, BelTA learned from the Investigative Committee of Belarus.

The meeting focused on countering cybercrime and strengthening international cooperation between the two countries.

On behalf of Belarus’ Investigative Committee, Oleg Shandarovich affirmed commitment to building up cooperation in criminal legal matters. In turn, Berik Asylov pointed out the agency's interest in constructive and efficient cooperation.

“For several years, Belarus has seen a significant increase in the number of cases of money being stolen from Belarusian citizens and then pulled out directly to bank accounts in Kazakhstan. While there were only five such incidents seven years ago, there were already more than 1,000 of them in 2024. This trend continues to grow,” Belarus’ Investigative Committee noted.

The parties shared their best practices in combating new types of crimes. Since a large number of cybercrimes were established to have been committed by the same people in the two countries, the parties set up an international investigative and operational group. It is made up of law enforcement officers of Belarus and Kazakhstan and is led by Sergei Gamko, Deputy Head of the Directorate for Digital Forensic Investigation of the Investigative Committee of Belarus.

The meeting also outlined plans for further development of legal cooperation.

The Investigative Committee added that the number of executed requests for international legal assistance submitted by Belarusian investigators to Kazakhstan is increasing annually. In 2021 there were 65 such requests, while last year the number rose to 1,080.
