MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) – Belarus and Israel have held a historical research videoconference “Holocaust in Belarus”, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Israel.
“The conference focused on various historical, social, and psychological aspects of the genocide of Jews in Belarus during World War II. The participants used the example of the Minsk ghetto to analyze the stories of Holocaust survivors, including those who were rescued by Belarusians that were later awarded the title of the Righteous Among the Nations,” the embassy said.
The event featured the screening of a film, which was produced at the request of World Holocaust Remembrance Center Yad Vashem. The film tells the story of David Taubkin, a Holocaust survivor from the Minsk ghetto.
The conference lasted for more than two hours. It brought together heads of embassies of Belarus and Israel and departments of the foreign ministries of the two countries, historians and researchers from Belarusian States University, Maksim Tank Belarusian State Pedagogical University, Minsk State Linguistic University, and the Leonid Levin History Workshop.
The main organizers and participants of the videoconference were the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History and the World Holocaust Remembrance Center Yad Vashem.
