Belarus, Israel discuss plans to create Holocaust and Resistance Museum in Novogrudok

MINSK, October 17 (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Israel Yuri Yaroshevich held a meeting with the Chairman of the Yad Vashem Directorate Dani Dayan, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Israel.

The parties discussed preserving the historical memory of the Holocaust, commemorating the victims of Nazism, and advancing cooperation between Belarus and Israel in the memorial and educational domain. The main topic of the meeting was the project to establish a Holocaust and Resistance Museum in Novogrudok, Belarus, based on the existing Museum of Jewish Resistance located there.

Novogrudok holds a special place in the history of the Jewish people. Around 11,000 Jews were killed in a ghetto that existed here during the Great Patriotic War.

The parties emphasized the importance of preserving historical truth, countering antisemitism, and agreed to continue their joint work in this area.
