Belarus, Iran discuss cooperation prospects in security matters

MINSK, 13 September (BelTA) – State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich has met with Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran (SNSC) Ali Akbar Ahmadian, BelTA has learned.

The parties exchanged views on international and regional security threats and discussed bilateral cooperation, taking into account geopolitical realities.

They expressed concern over the turbulent international situation and reaffirmed their commitment to the principle of universal, equal and indivisible security based on mutual trust and respect.

They also reaffirmed readiness to expand interstate relations and explore new areas of Belarus-Iran security cooperation.

“Just a few days ago we discussed similar issues at the BRICS venues, just in a broader format. More than 20 countries participated in the discussion. The Iranian delegation arrived in Belarus at our invitation. During the meeting with the president of our country and the bilateral meeting, we constructively and substantially  discussed the international agenda, international security, as well as regional and global threats to stability,” Aleksandr Volfovich told journalists after the meeting.

He went on saying that Belarus and Iran have the same views on global issues, and advocate for building a multipolar world. “We understand perfectly well that this is important for the future and development. Amidst the hybrid war unleashed against Belarus and Iran and other countries, Iran proposed to create an anti-sanctions coalition. This coalition will include countries that will band together for the purpose of their socio-economic development and improvement of living standards of their people. This coalition will also prioritize security issues. We have supported all steps along this path,” he emphasized.

Aleksandr Volfovich remarked that it was proposed to take a more constructive approach to bilateral cooperation, to develop a roadmap to promote military and military-technical security. It was also proposed to think of ways to address joint problems.

“As the president has said today, no topic is off limits with Iran. We see things in the same way, we are aware of the problems and have approximately the same views on mechanisms to prevent modern security challenges and threats,” Aleksandr Volfovich added.
