Belarus' interior minister apologizes for injuries of random people during unrest

MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – Belarus' Minister of Internal Affairs Yuri Karayev apologized for the injuries of random people who happened to be on the streets during protests as he appeared on the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“During all mass confrontations, during the efforts to stop massive violations of public order, it happens that not only protesters, but also random people, those who did not leave on time or could not jump away are affected. Being a commander, I want to take responsibility and apologize personally to these random people,” Yuri Karayev said.

When asked whether random people can become hostages of this situation, the minister noted that this happens indeed. He believes that there are really peaceful people who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and there are also those who take to the streets in disguise of peaceful people.

According to Yuri Karayev, peaceful people should be released as fast as possible and this is already being done. “I am not a bloodthirsty person and I do not want any violence. They are all our citizens. They all have families, children,” Yuri Karayev said.
