Belarus implements over 20 cultural projects in 2020

MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) – A total of 23 cultural projects were implemented in Belarus in 2020, thanks to the grants of the President of Belarus, BelTA learned from the Culture Ministry of Belarus.

Grants were allocated for cultural and entertainment events and innovative projects to develop Belarusian culture and preserve national spiritual traditions.

For example, the National History Museum hosted exposition projects “Belarusian Costume: Modern and Contemporary Design” and “Museum Collections: Second Birth”. The National Museum of Art showcased the innovative exhibitions “Jan Damel. Canvas, Paper, Digital” and “Red - Code of the Nation. Sacredness, Aesthetics, Power.” The international archaeological conference Life-Long Expedition. Topical Issues of Archeology and Numismatics in Belarus and Adjacent Regions, two scientific seminars Outcomes of Belarusian Archeology and the volunteer archaeological camp Naury 2020 were held as part the innovative project “The Past has the Future: Dialogue of Culture and Science”. The project resulted in temporary exhibitions Archaeological Monument: Fixation of the Past in the Past, Archaeological Textures: Inspiration by the Past, "Archeology of Death: Memory. Eternity. Forefathers.

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble hosted the exhibition We Won Together. Frontline Letters as a Message from the Past which featured more than 1,200 digitized frontline letters, notices, documents, photos and numerous auxiliary materials.

Students of the Grodno State College of Music, the Belarusian State Academy of Music, the Lida State College of Music, and the National Gymnasium-College at the Belarusian State Academy of Music successfully performed at international contests and festivals. The Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts held a concert Tutti Gathers Friends at the Palace of Culture of Veterans in Minsk and also presented the musical project Songs of Generations at the Youth Variety Theater.

The Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve played host to a series of events celebrating the works of Belarusian figures of culture, shot three video films and collected more than 500 items related to the activities of honorary citizens of Polotsk.

The House of Crafts and Folklore at the Center for Traditional Culture and Folklore of Gorodok District produced one floor and four table looms for weaving national towels.

The internet resource “Underground and Partisan Publications of Belarus” was presented on the online portal of the National Library of Belarus. The website offers 120 titles of newspapers and 1315 issues, 40 media documents, 152 leaflets, 13 handwritten materials, 73 pictorial documents, and 135 posters. An online resource “Manuscripts of Contemporary Belarusian Authors from the Collections of the National Library of Belarus” was launched as well.

As a result of the Echo of Victory project, a full-text database including 3027 articles from national, regional and district newspapers for the period from 1945 to 1965 was developed and made available on the website of Gomel Oblast Universal Library named after V. I. Lenin. The library also developed an electronic resource Andrei Makayonak - Man, Dramatist, Artist, and displayed the banner exhibition The Theater - the Source of His Inspiration.

The results and effectiveness of the cultural projects, which received grants of the President of the Republic of Belarus in 2020, were considered by the National Commission on Presidential Grants. According to the ministry, the implemented projects are in demand in the activities of cultural organizations, they continue to generate income, and are used in the implementation of various activities.
