Belarus’ House of Representatives working on 16 bills

MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – The House of Representatives is working on 16 bills, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko told reporters as he met with heads of national mass media outlets. The participants of the meeting will discuss the coverage of government policies and the participation of parliamentarians in their implementation, BelTA has learned.

“This is the first such meeting at the House of Representatives in the run-up to the second session that will take place on the third Tuesday of September in accordance with the Constitution. And it is very symbolic that it will be held on 17 September - on the Day of People’s Unity. New members of the parliament have got to know each other, we have been working for almost six months. Now we are preparing for the second session, for the work in our constituencies. Today, we are working on 16 bills that are at various stages of readiness. But this does not mean that all 16 of them will be submitted for consideration on 17 September. Some of them will be submitted as soon as they are ready.”

According to the speaker, the purpose of meeting is to compare notes. Igor Sergeyenko emphasized that almost every day, journalists from BelTA, TV channels, radio stations, and printed press cover the work of Belarusian parliamentarians. “We truly appreciate your work and value our collaboration. As our monitoring suggests, the number of publications in printed press about bills, international activities, and the work in constituencies is gradually increasing. New thematic columns are launched, and our deputies' interaction with the regional press has intensified,” he said.

“Our common goal is to discuss and decide on how to better explain the government policy to the public, deliver first-hand information about planned legislative decisions and improve the perception of the authorities by the public. People need to promptly get accurate information about the activities of government agencies and parliament, which necessitates new approaches and consistent work. Of course, it seems important to join efforts to build public profile of deputies and improve their image,” Igor Sergeyenko remarked.
