Belarus' healthcare minister meets with IFRC president

MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) – Belarus' Healthcare Minister Dmitry Pinevich welcomed the high level of cooperation between the Belarus Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) as he hosted a meeting with Secretary General of the Belarus Red Cross Dmitry Shevtsov and President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Francesco Rocca at the Healthcare Ministry, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarus Red Cross.

“I would like to point out the high level of cooperation between the Belarus Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. I have been involved in the work of the national society for almost 15 years and have the right to make assessments not only as an official, but also as a person who knows how hard the organization works,” Dmitry Pinevich said.

The minister thanked Francesco Rocca for coming to Belarus to assess the current situation at the border.

On behalf of the head of state, the Council of the Republic, the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament, coordinates all humanitarian efforts at the border. Members of the Council of the Republic are working on the ground in the logistics center that was turned into a temporary accommodation facility for refugees, they interact with public associations and the government. The Grodno Oblast Executive Committee is doing the bulk of the work to create and maintain normal living conditions for refugees. The regional administration is assisted by various government bodies. Humanitarian aid is collected and delivered to refugees by the Belarus Red Cross headed by Dmitry Shevtsov.

“It was a clear-cut solution, and this is one of the criteria to assess our work. It is the Belarus Red Cross that brings all incoming humanitarian aid to those in need,” the minister said.

According to the latest data, more than 100 tonnes of humanitarian aid has been collected and brought from all over the country. More than 90 tonnes were handed over to refugees. Not only the Red Cross volunteers are involved in the work. More than 30 volunteers were sent by trade unions, the BRSM Youth Union, the Belarusian Women's Union.
