Belarus’ Foreign Ministry confirms arrest of Olga Klaskovskaya in Sweden

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – The Foreign Ministry of Belarus has confirmed that Belarusian citizen Olga Klaskovskaya was arrested in Sweden, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Savinykh told BelTA.

“We confirm her arrest. We have already contacted preliminary investigation agencies. Olga Klaskovskaya will be provided with legal assistance if needed,” Andrei Savinykh said.

He informed: “We keep in touch with Swedish law enforcement agencies looking for Belarusian national Miroslava Naumovich (daughter of Olga Klaskovskaya – BelTA’s note). When her whereabouts are identified, we will send a request to send her to Belarus to her grandparents.”

Foreign mass media reported that Olga Klaskovskaya was arrested in Sweden on suspicion of attempting to kill her former husband, a citizen of Sweden. In early February 2013 social services of Sweden took away her seven-month old son who is a citizen of Sweden. In 2006 Olga Klaskovskaya together with her daughter Miroslava left Belarus for Poland, then moved to Norway and Sweden. In Sweden she got married and gave birth to her son. The Swedish authorities have recently decided to deport Klaskovskaya to Belarus together with her 11-year old daughter with no right to overturn the decision.
