Belarus faces 320m cyberattacks in 2022

MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) - An estimated 320 million cyberattacks were carried out on Belarus in 2022, and cybercrime continues to rise, Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council Aleksandr Neverovsky told the media at a meeting in the House of Representatives to discuss the current state and areas of improving the legislation regulating the protection of information and cybersecurity on 30 October, BelTA has learned.

“According to the operational and analytical center, 320 million cyberattacks hit Belarus in 2022,” Aleksandr Neverovsky said. “Our task is to reduce the effectiveness of these cyberattacks. We however can say that their number does not go down.” 

“The information sector in modern conditions is a key element with the help of which they influence our population, our minds in order to manipulate our consciousness,” the deputy state secretary of the Security Council emphasized. “In 2019, the country adopted the Information Security Concept. The points outlined in the concept were finalized in the National Security Concept. We have the Information Security Concept of the Union State. Today we are on the verge of adopting the Union State Security Concept, where the issues of ensuring security in the information sector are also voiced as fundamental in order to ensure stability in the society”.

According to Aleksandr Neverovsky, Belarus has developed an effective system for ensuring national security in the field of information; the entities responsible for each area have been identified.

The event participants are set to discuss ensuring national security of Belarus in the information sector, state management and regulation in the areas of information protection and cybersecurity, prospects for the development of cybersecurity, new challenges and threats of the digital age, judicial practice in cases of crimes against computer security.
