Belarus eager to learn Italy’s dairy manufacturing secrets

MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) - Belarus shows keen interest in the achievements and even secrets of Italian cheesemakers and producers of other dairy products. Belarus has an actively developing dairy industry, with milk production and processing volumes going up, and wide opportunities for export and increasing domestic sales opening up. Increasing the competitiveness of products by improving their quality is a priority, Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, told the media on the sidelines of the Belarusian-Italian round table on milk processing technology and dairy production, running at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 10-13 September, BelTA has learned.

The first Belarusian-Italian round table was held in the Belarusian capital in February 2024 and highlighted livestock breeding development. Vladimir Gusakov noted that bilateral cooperation continues by mutual agreement, which means that both parties are interested in it.

“Many praise the impeccable quality of Belarusian dairy products. We, however, should not feel complacent and should move forward. In this regard, Italy’s experience is extremely important for us. We understand that everyone adheres to their own interests, but we hope to get familiar with some secrets of Italian cheesemakers and dairy producers,” he emphasized. “We are deeply interested in the latest technologies, application of microorganisms and their production complexes to improve the quality of products”.

The program of the visit includes not only the discussion of promising areas and mechanisms of joint scientific and technical activities in milk processing technologies and dairy production, but also tours of the organizations of the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and domestic enterprises producing baby food. Vladimir Gusakov announced the planned signing of a communiqué on further cooperation based on the results of the two round tables.

“The emphasis is on the practical component of bilateral cooperation. That is why the discussions are attended by not only scientists, but also heads of the country’s large processing enterprises. They should know about the achievements of Italian partners in the dairy industry and find ways to solve local problems through questions and exchange of opinions,” the chairman of the Presidium of National Academy of Sciences said.

Scientists have various tasks to accomplish in the dairy industry. This includes the production of new types of products, measures to increase the demand and competitiveness of products, efforts to meet consumer demand, including people who need special nutrition, such as those suffering from certain diseases, athletes or children. In order to achieve success along the outlined vectors, it is important to learn from the experience of foreign partners.

“At the moment, cooperation is developing in a positive way and has a prospect of sustainable development. The interest of both parties is obvious,” Vladimir Gusakov said.
