MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) - Belarus is drafting a decree on a radioactive waste storage facility, BelTA learned from the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor).
“The document is needed for further development of the legal framework in nuclear and radiation safety, namely in radioactive waste management. The draft decree defines the procedure and preparatory activities required for the location, design, construction and commissioning of a radioactive waste storage facility in Belarus,” the department said.
The document will improve safety at all stages of radioactive waste management in the country through the creation of a radioactive waste long-term storage system.
