MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) – Over the past 24 hours Belarusian doctors provided inpatient care to four refugees and outpatient care to 14 refugees, Head of the Main Healthcare Delivery Department of the Healthcare Ministry of Belarus Aleksei Shcherbinsky told reporters, BelTA has learned.
In addition, ambulance teams visited refugees about 20 times to deliver medical care.
According to Aleksei Shcherbinsky, three out of four patients who received medical care in the hospital setting have a therapeutic pathology. “These are patients of different ages - from 10 to 70 years old. As for the patients who received outpatient medical care, they suffered from malaise, headache, high blood pressure, and so on,” he said.
Speaking about the risks posed by the poor sanitary conditions in the refugee camp, Aleksei Shcherbinsky noted that these can be both communicable and non-communicable diseases. The public health service of the Healthcare Ministry and that of Grodno Oblast are monitoring this issue, trying to prevent further adverse developments.
The Healthcare Ministry guarantees timely and full medical care to all citizens who find themselves in a difficult situation in the refugee camp on the Belarusian-Polish border, Aleksei Shcherbinsky noted. He said that the Healthcare Ministry guarantees assistance to people regardless of nationality, religion, gender or age. From a medical point of view, children and women, especially pregnant women, are more vulnerable, so helping them, other things being equal, is more important, he noted. In this regard, Aleksei Shcherbinsky said that a woman from Iraq sought medical help in connection with the complicated pregnancy. "Unfortunately, we diagnosed the death of the fetus. The woman herself is in stable condition and receives all the necessary medical care."
