Belarus’ Dmitry Zalessky wins third prize of Moscow International Ballet Competition


MOSCOW, 19 June (BelTA) - Belarusian choreographer Dmitry Zalessky won the third prize of the 12th Moscow International Ballet Competition, BelTA learnt from the press service of the competition.

Dmitry Zalessky presented the choreographic composition "The Game" and was awarded the third prize. This year the jury decided not to award the first prize. The second prize went to Oleg Gabyshev of Russia.

A total of 180 artists from 26 countries took part in the contest this year. The ten-day competition took place on two stages of the Bolshoi Theater – the new one and the historic stage. The competition was held among male and female soloists and duos, junior and senior age groups, and also among choreographers. The Grand Prix was not awarded this year.

Founded in 1969, Moscow International Ballet Competition has become one of the most prestigious events in the international ballet community. It is held once in four years. The ballet competition was founded by the legends of the Russian Ballet - Igor Moiseyev, Olga Lepeshinskaya and Galina Ulanova. Since 1973 Yuri Grigorovich has been the permanent President of the Jury of the Moscow Competition. This year the jury also includes the world-renowned masters of ballet art such as famous Belarusian choreographer Valentin Elizaryev, and also Marina Leonova, Ludmila Semenyaka, Svetlana Zakharova, Vadim Pisarev, Charles Jude, Margherita Parrilla.

The Moscow Ballet Competition Grand Prix has been awarded only to four dancers so far: Nadezhda Pavlova, Irek Mukhamedov , Andrei Batalov, Denis Matvienko. Among the winners of the Moscow Competition are Francesca Zumbo, Patrice Bart, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Eva Evdokimova, Lyudmila Semenyaka, Viacheslav Gordeev, Loipa Araujo, Vladimir Derevyanko, Nina Ananiashvili, Andris Liepa, Julio Bocca, Vladimir Malakhov, Maria Aleksandrova, Alina Cojocaru, Nikolay Tsiskaridze, Natalia Osipova, Ivan Vasiliev etc.

The awards ceremony of the 12th Moscow International Ballet Competition will take place today at the historic stage of Bolshoi Theater of Russia on 19 June.
