MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) - The situation in the region will not improve and become more peaceful unless a sustainable architecture of international and regional security is build, Valery Revenko, Chief of the International Military Cooperation Department, Aide for International Military Cooperation to the Belarusian Defense Minister, said at a briefing on topical issues of military policy and development of the Armed Forces of Belarus, BelTA learned.
The event brought together representatives of foreign military-diplomatic corps from 24 countries accredited at the Defense Ministry of Belarus.
“Apart from the artificially created tension on the western border, we have been witnessing the ongoing military conflict in the neighboring Ukraine for the past three years. Belarus is not a party to this conflict, despite numerous attempts to drag it into the war between the brotherly peoples provoked and fueled by foreign powers,” Valery Revenko said.
The Belarusian leadership continues to do its utmost to preserve peace under these conditions, he noted. “The Armed Forces stay ready to take decisive actions, if required to protect the Belarusian territory. As the head of our state has repeatedly said, we will respond immediately,” Valery Revenko stated.

“We hope that the newly inaugurated US President Donald Trump will stay true to his words and do his best to achieve a peaceful settlement as soon as possible. Certainly, it cannot be achieved in one day and by the efforts of one country, but there are enough states willing to contribute to resolving the Ukrainian conflict. Belarus is among them, and it has proven its commitment many times,” he emphasized.
It is important to understand that the situation in the region will not return to stability and good neighborliness until we build a sustainable architecture of international and regional security and unless the Western countries realize the need to fully take into account the security interests of Russia and Belarus, Valery Revenko summed up.
