Belarus' Customs pleased with x-ray vehicle scanning technology

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – A physical inspection of a vehicle can take up to four hours while scanning a vehicle using an x-ray scanner and analyzing the results takes about ten minutes, representatives of the State Customs Committee told BelTA.

According to the source, non-intrusive control technologies allow checking the content of vehicles fast without having to unload them first. While a physical inspection can take up to four hours, the average time spent on scanning a truck and analyzing the results is ten minutes.

At present the Belarusian customs service uses a total of ten vehicle scanners, including four mobile ones, five stationary ones, and one scanner for trains. This equipment earned over Br10 million in state revenues in 2020. For the last five years the x-ray scanners have allowed getting about Br40 in revenue per every ruble spent.

In 2020 the x-ray scanners helped detect over 1,750 violations, including attempts to smuggle large batches of drugs across the customs border.
