MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ State Customs Committee has commented on Lithuania’s decision to extend the closure of the Belarusian border to vehicles till 30 November, the press service of the State Customs Committee told BelTA.
The terms that have been in effect since 27 October remain in place: the border crossing Salcininkai (Benyakoni on the Belarusian side) is completely closed to traffic while certain categories of people can cross the border via the border crossing Medininkai (Kamenny Log on the Belarusian side).
Only two trucks have managed to go through the Belarusian border crossing Kamenny Log into Lithuania in compliance with Lithuania’s restrictions today.
Bearing it in mind, businesses (primarily Lithuanian and European Union ones) will have to redirect their traffic to Poland and Latvia. The shift is expected to result in additional material losses and lost time, Belarus’ State Customs Committee noted.
The agency stressed that the decision the truckers waited for at the border for three days has confirmed Lithuania’s negligent attitude to people. It has also confirmed that, regretfully, Lithuania has decided to continue pursuing a thoughtless unfriendly policy.
The Belarusian customs service stated that it is ready to handle more work at the border crossings that remain open at the border with Poland and Latvia.
