Belarus concerned over further militarization of Western countries

MINSK, 31 May (BelTA) - A regular meeting of the CSTO Defense Ministers Council was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, BelTA learned from the Defense Ministry of Belarus.

The CSTO defense ministers exchanged views on challenges and threats to military security in the region of the CSTO collective security.

At the meeting, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin drew attention to the activities of the U.S.-led Western countries to impose unprecedented discriminatory measures and wage a large-scale information war. The head of the Belarusian defense ministry also highlighted the further militarization, the increase in the number and scale of operational and combat training activities in Europe, a vivid confirmation of which is the series of the Defender 2024 exercise.

Viktor Khrenin also spoke about the West’s efforts to destabilize the internal political situation in other countries in order to overthrow legitimate governments and bring to power controlled politicians who will act on orders from the outside and defend other people's interests.

The defense minister urged to unite efforts and intensify joint activities to ensure the security of the CSTO member states and to improve the well-being of their peoples.

The defense ministers have taken the decisions to ensure common approaches and mechanisms for developing the military dimension of the CSTO, taking into account the national interests and priorities of the parties.
