Belarus clinches three medals at International Mathematics Competition for University Students


MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) - Students of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science of the Belarusian State University (BSU) won three medals at the 20th International Mathematics Competition for University Students which concluded in Bulgaria’s Blagoevgrad on 12 August, BelTA learnt from the BSU press service.

Gold medal went to third-year student Sergei Finsky. Vladislav Stazhinsky and Artyom Govorov picked up the silver medals.

The International Mathematics Competition for University Students brought together over 300 students from 35 countries. Belarus was represented only by the BSU team. Students from this university have been partaking in the Olympiad since 2001 and won 37 gold, 30 silver and 5 bronze medals.

The International Mathematics Competition for University Students was first held in 1994. Lasting for two days, the competition includes 10 tasks which cover such areas of mathematics as mathematical analysis, linear and abstract algebra, functional analysis, analytic geometry, combinatory and number theory. The working language of the competition is English.
