Belarus’ citizen readmission commission to continue working

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – The commission in charge of considering petitions of Belarusian citizens, who stay abroad, is expected to continue working, BelTA learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office press service after a regular session of the commission.

Prosecutor General Andrei Shved is the commission’s chairman. He was quoted as saying that a draft presidential decree on extending the deadline for submitting petitions to the commission and extending the commission’s work period had been submitted for consideration of the head of state.

Since the commission started working, it has received over 150 petitions via email and a Telegram bot. Once the facts were checked out, they were forwarded for the commission’s consideration.

At the session held on 26 January the commission looked into circumstances described in a number of petitions submitted in 2023. After reviewing the petitions, the commission decided to inform the citizens either about the absence of administrative proceedings, criminal proceedings, resolutions that recognize them as suspects or guilty persons, or about their status as part of an administrative investigation or a criminal investigation.
