Belarus, China exchange experience in supporting working mothers

MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) – Belarus and China exchanged their experience in implementing programs to support working mothers during the 2nd China-Belarus Women's Forum held in Nanjing of China, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is implementing various programs to support women with family responsibilities in their workplaces within the framework of Belarusian labor legislation,” Chairperson of the Belarusian Trade Union of Education and Science Workers Tatiana Yakubovich said. “These include an additional day off (monthly or weekly) paid at the average daily wage, reduced working hours, flexible employment options, the ability to work part-time or fewer days per week for women expecting a child or raising children under 14 years, and paternity leave upon the birth of a child.”

Tatiana Yakubovich also touched upon labor guarantees stipulated in the agreement between the Belarusian Education Ministry and the Belarusian Trade Union of Education and Science Workers, as well as the expansion of social guarantees for women through collective agreements.

“Participation in the 2nd China-Belarus Women's Forum is not only about gaining an important professional experience. It is also a true source of inspiration. It provided a unique opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues from China, discuss successful practices and initiatives to support women in our countries. I believe such events strengthen the friendship and mutual understanding between our peoples. We can truly learn a lot from each other and move together toward common goals. I am confident that our cooperation through women’s movements and professional unions will be a valuable investment in strengthening the friendship between our states,” Tatiana Yakubovich concluded.

The forum took place at Southeast University, one of China's oldest educational institutions founded in 1902. The 1st China-Belarus Women's Forum was held at the Minsk State Linguistic University.
