GOMEL, 12 June (BelTA) - Cooperation between Belarus and China in education is an intellectual basis for partnership in all the areas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said as he visited Francisk Skorina Gomel State University on 12 June, BelTA has learned.
According to Rector of Francisk Skorina Gomel State University Sergei Khakhomov, today the university cooperates with 17 Chinese universities, has the Confucius Institute, and runs joint educational programs. At present 332 students from China study at Francisk Skorina Gomel State University. The university also runs an experimental project offering training to students from China in English in four specialties.
“We are glad that the embassy supports us. We hope for the continuation of fruitful cooperation,” the rector emphasized.
“China attaches great importance to the development of not only business cooperation between our two countries, but also to interaction in humanitarian areas, including education,” the Chinese ambassador to Belarus said.
In his words, cooperation of Francisk Skorina Gomel State University with Chinese universities, scientific institutions yields concrete results in science, education. “This is really valuable,” the diplomat said.
The Chinese-Belarusian relations have the status of all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership, he added. “Political mutual trust is getting stronger every year. Business cooperation is strong and fruitful. All [areas of partnership] cannot do without support and effective cooperation in education. After all, this is the intellectual basis of our cooperation,” Xie Xiaoyong said.
In his opinion, it is important to develop dialogue not only in the scientific direction, in academic research, but also in the education of the younger generation - in order to pass on the traditions of friendship from generation to generation.
“I am sure that cooperation between Francisk Skorina Gomel State University and Chinese universities, other scientific institutions will definitely develop further and will favor the development of relations in other areas. I am deeply confident that our students studying at your splendid university and your students who are now studying in our country will definitely continue the great cause of friendship,” Xie Xiaoyong added.
The ambassador also met with Chinese students studying at Francisk Skorina Gomel State University. The participants of the meeting talked about the studies and life in the Belarusian city. Xie Xiaoyong expressed his gratitude to the university administration for providing Chinese students with everything necessary.
