MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) - The composition of the Scientific and Expert Council of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has been approved, BelTA learned from the CEC.
The Scientific and Expert Council will consist of 20 people. Among them are scientists specializing in legal studies, political scientists, sociologists, lawyers, as well as practitioners specializing in preparation and holding of elections and referendums.
The Central Election Commission recalled that the Scientific and Expert Council of the CEC was established in order to study expert and public opinion on proposed decisions of the CEC, to develop proposals for improving the electoral legislation, as well as to address other issues related to the improvement of the electoral system of Belarus.
The functions of the new collegial and consultative body also include educating voters about legal aspects of elections.
