Belarus’ CEC to analyze implementation of electoral laws on single voting day

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) - The Central Election Commission will analyze the implementation of the electoral legislation when holding multi-tier elections on a single voting day, Chairman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko said at a press conference on the preliminary results of the parliamentary and local elections at the CEC Information Center in Minsk on 26 February, BelTA has learned.

"Once the election campaign started, the Central Election Commission launched a call center for a prompt response to voters' requests and complaints. It received more than 1,500 calls from citizens. Work was also carried out to consider written complaints. All addresses that fall within the remit of the Central Election Commission were answered. Employees of the call center took measures to promptly resolve incoming requests. The main topics were the addresses of a polling station (an auxiliary service for finding a polling station was launched on the CEC website), clarifying information about the election programs of candidates, the desire to vote not at the place of registration, requests to organize voting at home," said Igor Karpenko.

The head of the CEC noted that all information about the single voting day was posted on the websites of the Central election Commission and local executive and administrative bodies, published in the print media.

"Taking into account the addresses, in view of the multi-tier nature of the elections on a single voting day, I think we should consider creating a unified information source by the next such election campaign that will provide the information about candidates of all levels, their bios and careers, their election programs. Thus it will be easier for voters to find the necessary information,” Igor Karpenko emphasized. “The Central Election Commission will study the law enforcement practice and, taking into account the opinion of the regions and election commissions, will analyze the implementation of the electoral legislation on the single voting day.”
