Belarus’ CEC head comments on West’s reaction to president election in Belarus

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) - Chairman of Belarus’ Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko commented on the reaction of the West to the presidential election in Belarus, BelTA learned.

“They do not care not about the process itself or about its compliance with the national electoral legislation. They care about the result. If the result is the one they want, the one they financed via NGOs, various structures and organizations, then they will issue positive assessments. By the way, this is the reason why the media is lamenting the closure of some projects, some ‘non-governmental’ organizations that were used to finance other organizations in a number of countries. This is actually long-term financing of the work to destabilize the situation in a number of countries during the preparation and conduct of elections,” Igor Karpenko said.

Why do they choose this particular time ? The answer is obvious, Igor Karpenko said. “This is the time when some political contradictions become more pronounced, when opinions of different social groups clash and so on. In this period it is very easy to exert influence, having such a powerful information resource as the internet, as the media at hand,” he said. “It is not by chance that we have introduced such a concept as electoral sovereignty. This notion is reflected in the National Security Concept. The analysis and specifics of the latest vote, latest election campaign must become the basis for long-term work to strengthen our electoral sovereignty, and thus, the sovereignty of our country."
