MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) - Such a high turnout during the early voting was a predicted matter, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Igor Karpenko said in an interview to Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
The turnout at the early voting for the constitutional referendum in Belarus totaled 42.93% of eligible voters.
“We have predicted it. Electoral campaigns show that usually some 30-40% of Belarusians vote early. The referendum affects everyone in the country and therefore the turnout is high,” said Igor Karpenko.
