MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) - Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus Igor Karpenko has met with Sergei Lebedev, CIS Secretary General and head of the CIS observation mission for Belarus’ parliamentary and local elections, BelTA has learned.
"We have invited the CIS election observation mission to monitor the elections of deputies on the single voting day. By tradition, we are giving you the certificate of the number one international observer," said Igor Karpenko.
The chairman of the Central Election Commission expressed readiness to provide all the necessary information on preparations for the single voting day.
"We greatly appreciate this trust. Minsk is called the capital of the CIS for a reason in the Commonwealth space. I have recently met with the president of Belarus and thanked him for the support provided to the CIS Executive Committee. Perfect conditions for our work have been created here," the CIS secretary general stressed.
"We are closely following the preparations for the elections. In recent years, it has become a tradition for us to start assessing the activities of the Central Election Commission and other bodies responsible for the electoral process before the official launch of the observation mission’s work. It is noteworthy that electoral legislation is continuously improved throughout the CIS, and Belarus is no exception," concluded Sergei Lebedev.
