MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) - Five initiative groups continue collecting signatures in support of the nomination of candidates for President of the Republic of Belarus, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Igor Karpenko said at a meeting of the CEC in Minsk on 20 November, BelTA has learned.
“The process of collecting signatures of citizens in support of nomination of candidates for President of the Republic of Belarus continues. As of today, 5 initiative groups are collecting signatures. Olga Chemodanova and Sergei Bobrikov have applied to suspend the operation of their initiative groups,” Igor Karpenko said.
The collection of signatures will be underway until 6 December inclusively, the CEC head stressed. “Next, territorial commissions will begin to verify the validity of collected signatures of citizens in support of the nomination of presidential candidates. The relevant documents will be provided, and the process will continue in accordance with the calendar plan,” he added.
Members of the initiative groups are actively working in different parts of the country. Signatures are collected as part of campaigning events (in the locations designated by local administrations) and in locations where voters live or work (serve).
Presidential election in Belarus is scheduled for 26 January 2025.
