MOSCOW, 28 September (BelTA) - Belarusian candidates for space flight will be named in the near future, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia following a working meeting between Chairman of the Presidium of the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences Vladimir Gusakov, Ambassador of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Krutoi and Roscosmos Director General Yuri Borisov held at the Roscosmos State Corporation on 28 September.

The parties discussed cooperation in remote sensing of the Earth and manned cosmonautics, including a joint project to send a Belarusian cosmonaut to the Russian segment of the ISS. "We have compiled a list of candidates. They will go through the selection program at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. Then the main candidate and his backup will begin training for the space flight," the press service said.

"Representatives of both countries spoke in favor of strengthening cooperation in the space sector and hailed the importance of the agreements to expand the partnership reached during the meeting," the press service added.
