MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) - Deputy Chairman of the National Statistical Committee of Belarus Timofei Zhigarev called for improving the quality of work of custodian agencies during the 56th session of the UN Statistical Commission in New York, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Statistical Committee.
Timofei Zhigarev emphasized the need to improve the quality of work of custodian agencies. In his words, many of them do not always give preference to national data, incorrectly apply estimation approaches and use sources of information that are not credible.
“This situation forces the National Statistical Committee of Belarus to conduct lengthy negotiations and consultations with custodian agencies on the compliance of data collection and statistical indicator generation methods with international standards. I believe that only a conscientious and unbiased approach in the activities of custodian agencies, as well as strict compliance with the UN General Assembly resolution will contribute to the presentation of objective and reliable information about the countries in the global community,” the representative of the National Statistical Committee of Belarus said.
A number of strategic documents, decisions and initiatives in various areas of statistical activities at the global level are to be taken at the 56th session of the UN Statistical Commission.
