Belarus' border service open for dialogue to solve refugee crisis on border

MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) - Chairman of the Belarusian State Border Committee Lieutenant General Anatoly Lappo met with Regional Director for IOM's Regional Office covering South-Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia Renate Held and Deputy Director of the UNHCR Regional Bureau for Europe Angela Li Rosi in Minsk on 23 November, BelTA learned from the State Border Committee of Belarus.

"The parties considered the current situation related to the irregular migrants stranded on the border of Belarus and Poland and discussed the interaction of all involved organizations to assist this category of persons," the committee said.

Anatoly Lappo noted that the State Border Committee is open to dialogue with all interested parties. The Belarusian border guard service is making every effort to resolve the current situation with refugees seeking to reach the EU countries. The parties reached agreements on further cooperation in this direction.
