Belarus attends SCO forum of top security officials in Beijing

MINSK, 24 June (BelTA) – Beijing hosted the 20th meeting of the Security Council Secretaries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States in Beijing, BelTA learned from the State Secretariat of the Security Council of Belarus.

During the meeting, the secretaries of the Security Councils discussed the situation in security and stability in the SCO space. The participants stressed the need to improve cooperation mechanisms to counter terrorism, separatism and extremism, illicit trafficking in weapons and drugs, human trafficking and cyber fraud with the use of the internet and ICT, including artificial intelligence.

The top security officials also looked into the security issues to be submitted to the upcoming SCO summit.

A delegation of the State Secretariat of the Belarusian Security Council headed by State Secretary Aleksandr Volfovich took part in the meeting. In his speech, the head of the Belarusian delegation focused on the rapid and negative development of the situation on the Eurasian continent and in the world as a whole. In this context, the Belarusian delegation made a number of proposals to imporve the fight against international terrorism, extremism and separatism.
Proposals were also made to strengthen cooperation in the field of international information security. The need to develop dialogue in the interests of building a new system of international and regional security was voiced.

On the sidelines of the forum in Beijing, Aleksandr Volfovich met with his colleagues from the SCO countries to discuss the state of bilateral cooperation between the offices of the Security Councils and the promising areas of interaction and joint work between the special services and law enforcement agencies of the SCO member states.
