Belarus aims to expand innovation cooperation with distant countries

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) - Belarus intends to expand innovation cooperation with the countries in the far abroad, Deputy Chairwoman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus Tatiana Stolyarova said during the final board meeting of the committee, BelTA has learned.

“The State Committee on Science and Technology expands scientific and technical ties with distant countries, including the countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The People's Republic of China remains our key partner. In 2025 Belarus intends to expand scientific, technological and innovation cooperation with the countries in the far abroad, to hold meetings of commissions on scientific and technical cooperation with Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and South Africa,” Tatiana Stolyarova said.

The governments of Belarus and China have decided to declare 2024-2025 the Years of Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation. The two countries are implementing a plan of measures. Plans are in place to hold joint scientific and technical events, develop Belarusian-Chinese cooperation platforms. The two countries held a contest of Belarusian-Chinese scientific and technical projects for 2024-2026. Twenty projects were selected for joint implementation in ICT, medicine, mechanical engineering, new materials, environmental management, chemistry, and agro-industrial technologies. The first competition of flagship scientific and technical projects was announced in November 2024. Among the priority areas are information and communication technologies, new materials, and advanced production technologies. Based on the results of the competition, it is planned to select three large-scale joint projects for implementation in 2025-2026. They should result in the development of advanced technologies and the organization of joint ventures or industrial technology centers based on them.

After Belarus joined the SCO, interaction was launched within the framework of the agreement between the governments of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states on scientific and technical cooperation. The agreement contains a broad list of areas of cooperation and forms of its implementation. “It will contribute to deepening the interaction of the countries in science and technology in a multilateral format. Strategic decisions taken at the level of the authorities of our countries have given impetus to interaction in all sectors: economy, politics, social and cultural sector, science and technology,” the deputy chairwoman of the committee said.

According to Tatiana Stolyarova, in 2025 there are plans to approve and start the implementation of the action plan for the strategy of scientific and technological development of the Union State until 2035. There are also plans to develop a roadmap to support joint scientific, research and technology projects carried out jointly by educational and scientific organizations located in Belarus and St. Petersburg in 2026-2028. Plans are in in place to hold contests of scientific and technical projects with China, Vietnam, Serbia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The State Committee on Science and Technology is also going to participate in the regular meetings of the commission on formation of a common scientific and technological space of the Union State and the CIS Interstate Council on Cooperation in Scientific, Technical and Innovation Sectors.
