MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) - Vyacheslav Musel, a beekeeper of the Narovlya section of the Polesie state radiation and ecology reserve, shared his memories of discussing beekeeping with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in the Our People project on the STV TV channel, BelTA has learned.
It was in April 2021, a couple of days before the 35th anniversary of the tragedy at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Even after three and a half decades, this topic remains painful for Belarusians and for the president, who keeps traveling to the affected regions.
Aleksandr Lukashenko came to visit the Polesie state radiation and ecology reserve in 2021. The discussion was about the restoration of contaminated lands and touched on the topic of beekeeping. It was this topic that became the reason for the acquaintance of Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vyacheslav Musel.
The beekeeper recalled that the conversation with the president was free-flowing and easy: “He was easy to converse with. There was nothing like ‘standing to attention, be afraid to move’.”
Vyacheslav Musel added that the preparations for the president’s visit were thorough. “The president once said: ‘When you are going to host guests, you clean your house”. We also cleaned up everything like good hosts,” Vyacheslav Musel said.
Despite the casualness of the conversation, Aleksandr Lukashenko was primarily interested in facts. And here Vyacheslav rose to the occasion thanks to his experience. “He didn't say anything about cleanness though, but he liked the bee house. He said he would like such a bee house for himself. We talked about the production of honey, about increasing bee colonies, planting fields with nectar-bearing plants, increasing the production of honey for sale so that we could earn a little extra," the beekeeper said.
