Astronomer: Belarus joins the family of most technologically advanced countries

MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) - Belarusian cosmonautics is on the rise, and Belarus fits into the family of the most technologically advanced countries, Russian astronomer, assistant professor of the Physics Department of Moscow State University (Russia) Vladimir Surdin said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.

“Belarus’ space sector is developing rapidly. The same is true about many other countries. Take the United Arab Emirates as an example. This country was hard to imagine as a space country. Today it flies around Mars and to the Moon. Belarus, of course, fits into this big family of top, most technologically advanced countries,” said Vladimir Surdin.

“When Belarusian goods were mentioned in the Soviet times, I could clearly say that those were powerful haul trucks and tasty dairy products,” the astronomer noted. “Today we are talking about a wider range of products. It would be strange if a large technological country limited itself in anything.”

According to Vladimir Surdin, space for Belarus is a normal and logical direction of modern technology development. “One should not shy away from it, otherwise there is a risk to stay in the rearguard of many other countries,” he emphasized.
