NIZHNY NOVGOROD, 27 June (BelTA) - There are currently nearly 600 cooperation agreements in effect between regions of Belarus and Russia, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said, BelTA has learned.
“Around 600 agreements are currently in effect between the regions of the Republic of Belarus and the constituent entities of the Russian Federation in such areas as trade, economy, social and humanitarian affairs, science, and culture. These include 157 [agreements to establish] sister-city partnerships,” Natalya Kochanova stressed. “We are open to cooperation with all regions of the Russian Federation. Because the challenges we face today can be addressed more effectively through joint efforts.”
The 12th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is taking place in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia on 26-27 June. Its theme is “The Youth of Belarus and Russia – Heirs of the Great Victory and the Future of the Union State”.
“This is a very relevant topic. We met with young people just yesterday. I would like to thank all the regional leaders, because when we organize events under the auspices of the Federation Council and the Council of the Republic, such as the Train of Memory, we truly rely on the support of our regional governors. You welcome our young people with open arms,” the speaker noted. “Thank you so much for making sure they leave with love for Belarus and Russia in their hearts. This is largely thanks to your efforts. There should be more events like this, and I am glad that young people are already getting involved.”
A meeting between Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova and Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko, as well as leaders of government bodies from the constituent entities of Russia and the regions of Belarus, is taking place on the sidelines of the 12th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Nizhny Novgorod.
