MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) – A total of 40 CIS long-term observers will be taking part in the monitoring of the presidential election in Belarus, Leonid Anfimov, head of the CIS observation mission headquarters at Belarus’ presidential election told the media on 9 January, BelTA has learned.
“There are 40 long-term observers. They in fact are the headquarters which I lead. They are engaged in monitoring the preparations for the upcoming voting day on a long-term basis. They visited precinct election commissions, local authorities, executive committees of various levels, where election commissions were formed. Today we are planning to meet with the headquarters of the candidates for President of the Republic of Belarus. If such an opportunity is provided, we will meet with the candidates for President of the Republic of Belarus,” Leonid Anfimov said.
The CIS observation mission began its work at the presidential election in Belarus on 18 December. This is the 13th mission to observe elections and referendums in Belarus and the 130th in the CIS.
“This is our 13th mission in the Republic of Belarus. The CIS observation mission started its first work during the presidential election in the Republic of Belarus in 2001,” Leonid Anfimov added.
Traditionally, the CIS observation mission carries out its functions strictly in accordance with the Belarusian legislation, respecting the sovereignty of the state, objectively assessing the process of preparation and conduct of the election campaign.
The presidential election in Belarus is scheduled for 26 January 2025.
