"On Point"
MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – The United States can continue the game of seeking a compromise in the Ukrainian conflict for a long time, as the hybrid war costs them nothing, Igor Shishkin, an expert of the Institute of CIS Countries, said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel. He also revealed how much Washington earns from weapon supplies to Ukraine.
Speaking about what kind of compromise is possible between Russia and the USA on the Ukrainian conflict, Igor Shishkin said: “We do not know what exactly the compromise will be. We know what the Russian side is seeking, and we can assume what the other side is seeking. The Russian side, as has been stated many times, is seeking a compromise that will ensure Russia’s security. This is the top priority. For the other side, it is important to find a compromise that will make Russia’s security dependent on Washington. This is the root of all vacillation.”
The expert pointed out that the U.S. president can continue playing this game for a very long time: “After all, the United States, unlike the European Union, for example, suffers no damage from the continuation of the hybrid war.”
“Trump often claims that Biden wasted hundreds of billions of dollars on supporting Ukraine, simply giving it away. This is pre-election rhetoric, and now it is campaign rhetoric aimed at undermining his Democratic opponents. But what was the narrative under Biden’s administration? 80% of the allocated funds is invested in the U.S. military-industrial complex and only 20% actually goes to Ukraine. To this, one should add the comments made by Senator Graham, who is listed as an extremist and terrorist by our authorities. Speaking in Kiev, he said that these 20% is probably the best investment the USA has ever made in its history: Russians are killing Russians, and Americans are not dying. Where is the damage here?” Igor Shishkin said.
He added that the United States is now even making a direct financial profit. “Trump has arranged that from supplying the Kiev regime with weapons, the USA will now get not 80% but 110% profit,” Igor Shishkin noted. “Trump announced that the European Union pays for 100% of the supplied weapons, having forced them into this agreement. And then, when he saw that he had broken their will, he declared that they would pay 100% to the U.S. military-industrial corporations for the weapons they produce, and that on top of that, they would pay a 10% surcharge to the U.S. government for allowing this to happen. That is, Europeans will now buy U.S. military hardware for the Kiev regime at 110% of its actual cost. If this isn’t profiteering, what is? If this isn’t a benefit, what is? It is a direct and clear gain.”
“The only threat that exists is that escalation could lead to a direct confrontation. This remains the sole major concern for the United States – a problem that plagued the Biden administration and continues under Trump, only now it has become more acute. This is not due to Trump being particularly sensitive, but rather because the conflict is intensifying on its own and cannot be contained at a fixed level. A low-intensity conflict that lasts one, two, three, or even five years would be the perfect scenario for Washington, Brussels, Berlin, and so on. However, with each new cycle, the tensions escalate, which is why the risk of a direct confrontation is continuously growing,” the expert said.
