MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) - The 2020 events in Belarus were the UK’s attempt to implement the Intermarium concept, economist and analyst Sergei Banar said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Ukraine has always been and will continue to be in the UK's sphere of influence. You, as Belarusians, could hardly have failed to hear about such a project, which Józef Piłsudski also tried to bring to life. This is the so-called Intermarium. Your events of 2020 were key to the implementation of this project. Belarus is the key point for its implementation. But, thank God, these plans failed. Accordingly, Belarus was able to withstand. It preserved its statehood, sovereignty, and social guarantees,” Sergei Banar said.
According to the analyst, after the failed attempt to implement the Intermarium concept, Ukraine was used to outline this zone. “But the British made a strategic mistake when they provoked this conflict. It was a strategic error. I think this is one of the few strategic mistakes of the West. One can have different opinions about them, but their level of strategic planning and thinking is quite high,” he said.
Sergei Banar added that this is confirmed by the fact of the West's 500-year hegemony over the world. In his opinion, the only exception was the years of Joseph Stalin's rule in the USSR. “But from 1953 to 1991, we, as sad as it is to say, watched as one of the greatest states, a victorious country, fell apart,” the analyst emphasized.
