MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – The military parade held in Beijing on 3 September demonstrated that China has transformed into a military superpower, the Russian journalist and military expert, editor-in-chief of the Russian National Defense Magazine, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
“We conducted a detailed military-technical analysis of the weapon systems displayed [at the parade in China]. First and foremost, we, like everyone else, noted the strategic triad demonstrated by China. A new liquid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missile was shown,” Igor Korotchenko said. “This means it is capable of striking any target, wherever it may be located. It is a heavy missile equipped with a warhead featuring multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs) and a developed system to counter missile countermeasures. This is the foundation, so to speak, of the power of the missile forces of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.”
The expert drew attention to the new DF-61 transporter erector launcher (TEL) shown at the military parade in China. This TEL belongs to roughly the same class as the Russian RS-24 Yars missile.
“New intercontinental missiles for the strategic nuclear submarines of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy were also displayed, as well as an air-launched ballistic missile, which also performs nuclear deterrence functions, and new tactical high-energy lasers,” Igor Korotchenko commented on the systems presented at the parade.
He also noted the strategic unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), which is a kind of analogue of the Russian Poseidon UUV. “It can carry a nuclear warhead over vast distances to the coastline of a potential enemy. And everyone understands perfectly well who is implied by this potential enemy from Beijing’s point of view,” the expert added.
Igor Korotchenko concluded that China has transformed its military potential in recent years. “Today, alongside the United States of America and the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China has become a military superpower. And China is also the number one economy,” the expert said.
