MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) –  More than 9,000 Chinese students study in Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said before the 2024 Spring Festival gala concert in the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts dedicated to the Chinese New Year, BelTA has learned.

“It has already become a tradition for Belarusian and Chinese students to celebrate the Spring Festival. It shows very close relations between our countries and students. Our cooperation has grown in various fields, including education and inter-university cooperation. Now there are more than 700 Chinese students studying at this university. In Belarus as a whole there are more than 9,000 from China. This is indeed a very good indicator of the relations between our countries. I am confident that our commonwealth in education and other sectors will achieve brilliant successes in the new year,” the ambassador said.

The Spring Festival is a very important traditional holiday for the Chinese nation. It is a joyful time when all family members come together to bid farewell to the Old Year and usher in the New Year, he added. Ambassador Xie Xiaoyong congratulated the Belarusians on the New Year of the Dragon and wished prosperity, good health, success in work and family happiness.

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Candidate of Art History, Associate Professor, Yelena Korsakova highlighted that New Year is one of the longest and most solemn holidays in China. “On the holiday's eve, students are eager to go home and spend it with their families. We are also a kind of family for our students, so first they celebrate the holiday with us and then they go to their home country,” Yelena Korsakova summarized.
